FSC Winter/Spring Athletics Update, March 7

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its latest edition of spring weekly awards Tuesday morning, with two Farmingdale State College student-athletes earning kudos and four others collecting honor roll citations.

Men's Basketball (21-8, 13-3 Skyline)

The Rams' magical season came to an end Friday night in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, as Skyline Conference champions fought until the very end before falling to second-ranked Christopher Newport University, 61-60, in Hampden Sydney, Virginia. The 21 victories are the most in a single season during 10th-year head coach Brendan Twomey's tutelage.

Track and Field

Farmingdale State wrapped up its indoor campaign Friday and Saturday at the All-Atlantic Region Championships at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in Manhattan. Senior Emily Russell (Southold, N.Y.) earned team points for the Rams on the women's side, placing eighth in the pentathlon with a personal-record 2,875 points.

The spring outdoor season for head coach Daniela Georgieva's teams gets underway March 25, when FSC travels to Galloway, N.J., for the Stockton Invitational.

Men's Lacrosse (2-1) | Skyline Report

Farmingdale State picked up a pair of non-conference home victories last week against New York State foes, earning an 11-8 decision Wednesday versus SUNY New Paltz and a 13-5 triumph Saturday against Hartwick.

Senior midfielder Johnny McMahon (Albertson, N.Y.) was named the Skyline's Offensive Player of the Week after registering a six-point week (5g, a), while sophomore goalie Dan Erler (Smithtown, N.Y.) took home Defensive Player of the Week accolades after he posted a 6.63 goals-against average and .618 save percentage, while adding a 50-yard goal from beyond midfield late in the New Paltz contest.

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's side is back in home action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Anna Maria College, before facing Lasell on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Davenport, Fla.

Women's Lacrosse (0-1) | Skyline Report

The Rams opened their season Saturday afternoon against NJAC mainstay Montclair State, dropping a heartbreaking 11-10 decision to the Red Hawks in triple overtime.

Junior midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and senior defender Celina Schenk (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) both secured spots on the Skyline's weekly honor roll for their efforts against MSU. Diamond controlled nine draws, while scoring back-to-back goals midway through the fourth quarter to level the game at 10-all and send the contest to overtime. Schenk was active on the defensive end of the field, causing a career-high five Red Hawks turnovers.

Head coach Erin Calkins's Farmingdale State squad is back in action Wednesday at 4 p.m. against visiting Ramapo, before traveling to Ewing, N.J., for a noon opening draw Saturday at No. 3 The College of New Jersey.

Baseball (1-2) | Skyline Report

The Rams split a season-opening home doubleheader Saturday against the University of Scranton, earning a 1-0 walk-off victory in nine innings in the nightcap on a successful suicide squeeze bunt.

Junior Daniel Deutsch (Northport, N.Y.) and freshman lefty Michael Camardi (Syosset, N.Y.) both were named to the Skyline's weekly honor roll. Deutsch went 3-for-4 across Saturday's twinbill in his FSC debut, while Camardi fired five innings of scoreless relief in the Rams' victory over the Royals -- retiring the last eight hitters he faced in the extra-innings affair.

Head coach Keith Osik's squad will open its seven-game spring break swing in Florida on Friday at 2 p.m., when they kick off play in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Fla., against Northland College.

Golf

The Skyline Conference-champion Rams will start their spring schedule leading up to its May trip to the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship on Friday, when head coach Ryan Williams's FSC team spends eight days at the Orange County National Golf Course in Winter Garden, Fla.

Softball

Farmingdale State will kick off its 10-game stint at The Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla., on Sunday, when head coach Liz Pennino's contingent will play Kenyon (Ohio) College at 9 a.m., before facing off with Amherst College at 2 p.m.

Men's Tennis (0-1)

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's side, which was picked second in the Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, will commence the spring portion of its schedule on March 21 (Tue.) at 4:30 p.m. against visiting Baruch College.

Skyline Conference Announces 2022-23 Winter All-Sportsmanship Team Recipients

The Skyline Conference recently released its 2022-23 Winter All-Sportsmanship Team, and FSC men's basketball freshman Michael Notias (Manhasset, N.Y.) and women's basketball senior Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) both earned recognition on the 32-person list.
