FSC Athletics Fall Update #5

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its fifth set of fall weekly reports Tuesday morning, with three Farmingdale State College student-athletes earning awards and five others being cited on honor rolls:

Women's Volleyball (5-7, 3-1 Skyline) | Skyline report

The Rams returned home last week to sweep past three matches against Mount Saint Mary (Tue.), Purchase (Thu.) and Pratt Institute (Sat.), before picking up a four-set Skyline win Monday night at Mount Saint Vincent.

Senior outside hitter Cathleen Farrell (Bayport, N.Y.) was named the Skyline's Player of the Week, after she averaged 4.67 points, 3.78 kills and 2.89 digs per set to lead FSC's trio of victories at home. Farrell's classmate, libero Madisyn Pozo (Bayside, N.Y.), was cited on the weekly honor roll after passing 2.78 digs and serving 0.89 service aces per set during the three-match homestand.

Head coach Kellie Block's team is back in Skyline action at home Wednesday against Manhattanville (7 p.m.), before welcoming Rutgers-Newark in non-conference play Saturday at 11 a.m.

Women's Tennis (5-4, 1-0 Skyline) | Skyline report

FSC went 1-1 on the week in non-conference play, winning 9-0 at Brooklyn College on Thursday before falling Sunday at Cortland.

The freshmen tandem of MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) received the Skyline's Player and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively, with Jones receiving her kudos for the second time this season. The duo teamed up for a 2-0 record in doubles play on the week, while each went 1-1 in singles action.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are scheduled to play three matches this week, including a home match Tuesday versus John Jay (4:30 p.m.) before taking to the road for Skyline matches at Manhattanville (Sat., noon) and Purchase (Sun., 10 a.m.).

Women's Soccer (3-6-1, 3-0 Skyline) | Skyline report

The Rams won their only competition of the week Wednesday night, taking down St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on the road by a 6-1 margin. 

Senior forward Emily Zeblisky (Northport, N.Y.) was cited on the Skyline's weekly honor roll, after posting career-highs in goals (four), assists (two) and points (10) against the Bears.

Three matches await head coach Chris Roche's FSC side this week, traveling Tuesday afternoon to Skyline foe St. Joseph's-Long Island (6 p.m.) before playing host to Scranton (Wed., 5 p.m.) and Mount Saint Mary (Sat., 2:30 p.m.).

Golf | Skyline report

Farmingdale State placed 12th at the two-day, 21-team Mason-Dixon Collegiate event (Waynesboro, Pa.). The team's 288 score (even par) on Sunday set a school-record for lowest round.

Sophomore Mackenzie Kim (E. Quogue, N.Y.) and junior Brad Castaldy (Dix Hills, N.Y.) both earned spots on the Skyline weekly honor roll for their efforts on the weekend. Kim shot a plus-7 151 on the weekend, while Castaldy tied the FSC records for lowest round (68) and lowest round in relation to par (minus-4) on Sunday -- records that Kim tied on Sept. 12.

Head coach Ryan Williams's Rams are off this week, before getting back into action at the 36-hole Melee Invitational, Oct. 15-16, at Riverview Country Club in Easton, Pa.

Cross Country | Men's Skyline report | Women's Skyline report

The Rams' men's team placed sixth, and the women's side eighth, at Friday afternoon's Golden Eagle Invitational held at Bethpage State Park.

Senior women's student-athlete Alycia Haynes (Adams Ctr., N.Y.) placed second individually with her 5k time of 19:22.32, and was recognized on the conference's weekly honor roll for her efforts.

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's FSC teams are back in action Saturday (Oct. 8) at the NJIT Highlander Invitational at Branch Brook Park in Newark, N.Y.

Men's Soccer (2-5-2, 0-2-2 Skyline) | Skyline report

Farmingdale State registered a 1-1 draw against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday night, before dropping a decision Saturday at Mount Saint Mary.

Head coach Chuck Schimpf's team is back in Skyline play for a pair of matches on the FSC campus, including Tuesday night at 5 p.m. against Old Westbury, and Saturday at noon versus Mount Saint Vincent.

Men's Tennis (1-1)

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams wrapped up their abbreviated fall schedule Friday afternoon, falling at Division II-member Adelphi University. Farmingdale State comes back for the spring portion of its season March 21 versus Baruch College.
