FSC Athletics Fall Update #3

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its latest edition of weekly reports Tuesday morning, and one Farmingdale State College student-athlete was featured prominently with a weekly accolade.

Men's Soccer (2-3) | Skyline Report

Head coach Chuck Schimpf's Rams got untracked last week, picking up a pair of 4-0 victories against Brooklyn College (Mon.) and Baruch College (Wed.) to round out their non-conference schedule.

Senior midfielder Brandon Balcaceres (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was named the Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career. In the two wins last week, Balcaceres recorded three goals and two assists for eight points. He buried two goals, including the game-winner, and had one assist against Brooklyn, before recording a goal and an assist versus Baruch.

Farmingdale State now turns its attention to Skyline Conference play, as it will play host to St. Joseph's-Long Island (Wed., 4 p.m.) and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Sat., noon) this week.

Golf | Skyline Report

FSC placed fourth this weekend in the inaugural, 10-team George Cangero Invitational, with a team score of 584 (plus-24) at Bethpage State Park's Red Course. The Invitational honors the memory of George Cangero, who was the Rams' head golf coach; his family helped present the awards following Sunday's competition.

Junor Chris Iguchi (Centereach, N.Y.) earned a spot on the Player of the Week honor roll after firing a career-low round of 69 on Sunday for a two-day total of 143 and an eighth place finish.

Head coach Ryan Williams's Farmingdale State team is off from competition this week, and will return to action Oct. 1-2 (Sat.-Sun.) in Waynesboro, Pa., when they compete at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate event at Waynesboro Country Club.

Women's Soccer (1-5-1, 1-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

FSC dropped a midweek contest at 14th-ranked The College of New Jersey, before registering a hard-fought, 2-2 draw Saturday at Arcadia (Pa.). 

This week, head coach Chris Roche's Rams will take to the field three times, with Skyline Conference games at Maritime (Tue., 7 p.m.) and versus USMMA (Sat., 2:30 p.m.) sandwiching a Thursday night, 7 p.m. kickoff in non-conference play at Montclair State.

Women's Tennis (3-2, 1-0 Skyline) | Skyline Report

The Rams defeated Baruch on Thursday by a 5-4 score, before suffering a setback by the same margin Saturday to Hunter College.

Waterhouse's side is back in action Saturday, when it plays host to Oneonta in a noon first serve.

Women's Volleyball (1-3) | Skyline Report

After dropping a midweek contest at Western Connecticut, FSC responded with a straight-sets victory Friday night at John Jay.

Four matches are in front of head coach Kellie Block's Rams this week, beginning with its Skyline Conference opener Wednesday night (7 p.m.) at defending champion USMMA. Farmingdale State travels to Brooklyn College one night later (6 p.m.), before playing Manhattanville and host Stevens Institute of Technology in a Saturday morning (10 a.m.) tri-match in Hoboken, N.J.

Men's Tennis (1-0)

Farmingdale State opened up the fall portion of its 2022-23 slate at home on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham by a 6-3 count.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are now off until Sept. 30, when they travel to Garden City, N.Y., for a 2 p.m. first serve at Division II-member Adelphi University.

Cross Country | Men's Skyline Report | Women's Skyline Report

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's Rams were off this past week, and return to action Sunday (Sept. 25) at the Mount Saint Mary Invitational (Hudson Valley Sports Dome; Milton, N.Y.).
