FSC Athletics Spring Update #5

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference released its weekly reports Tuesday morning (April 12), including its Player and Rookie of the Week selections, Honor Roll designees and statistical leaders.

Baseball Update (13-10, 8-4 Skyline) - Skyline report

The Rams went 3-1 in Skyline action for the second weekend in a row; winners in eight of its last 10, the team earned a split on Saturday against conference-leading St. Joseph's-Long Island, before capturing a sweep Sunday versus Yeshiva.

Senior right-handed pitcher Stephen Clancy (Mineola, N.Y.) was named to the Skyline's Honor Roll after a 1-0 week with one save, 14 strikeouts and a 2.25 ERA over eight innings of work.

Head coach Keith Osik's Rams are off from competition this week, and return to action April 19 in a non-conference game against Ramapo at 5 p.m.

Golf Update

Farmingdale State was scheduled to play this past weekend at the Tim Brown Invitational in Saratoga Springs, before the event was cancelled due to the effects of recent inclement weather in the Capital District.

Head coach Ryan Williams's Rams will continue their preparations for next month's NCAA Division III Golf Championship on Friday and Saturday, when they travel to Fayetteville, Pa., for the 36-hole Gettysburg Spring Shootout.

Men's Lacrosse Update (8-1, 2-0 Skyline) - Skyline report

Head coach Sean Chamberlain's side moved its winning streak to five on Saturday, besting host St. Joseph's-Long Island in the Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation's "Legends Game."

Senior attacker Terrence Haggerty (Centerport, N.Y.) was cited on the conference's Honor Roll after a two-goal, three-assist showing against the Golden Eagles.

The Rams' lone game before Easter weekend takes place tonight (Tue.), as they continue Skyline action in a 7 p.m. opening face-off at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Women's Lacrosse Update (5-7, 3-1 Skyline) - Skyline report

FSC split its pair of Skyline outings last week, defeating host St. Joseph's-Long Island by an 11-2 count on Tuesday, before falling Saturday to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Senior defender Anna Zaborowska (E. Patchogue, N.Y.) earned the Skyline Conference's Defensive Player of the Week award for the second-consecutive report; the conference's leader in ground balls (59) and caused turnovers (46) collected 13 and 14, respectively, last week. Her eight caused turnovers against St. Joseph's tied the FSC single-game record in that category (previous: Christy Thoden, vs. Mount Saint Vincent - March 27, 2013).

Head coach Erin Calkins's team returns to the field Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m., as it plays host to Maritime College.

Softball Update (15-2, 6-0 Skyline) - Skyline report

The Rams are now winners of eight straight and moved to 6-0 in Skyline action over the weekend, sweeping past Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday before traveling to sweep St. Joseph's-Long Island one day later.

Senior catcher Lyndsey Shaw (Sayville, N.Y.) was tabbed as the Skyline Conference Player of the Week, after hitting 9-for-15 (.600 BA, .625 OBP, 1.133 Slg.) with nine runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles and a pair of homers, while throwing out a pair of would-be base stealers from behind the plate.

Earning Honor Roll mention were pitcher Allie Stanya (Manorville, N.Y.), who leads the conference with a 1.69 ERA and hurled two complete-game shutouts on the weekend, along with freshman outfielder Jenna Giliberti (Bellmore, N.Y.), who hit .500 while scoring six times and driving in five.

Head coach Liz Pennino's squad is back in Skyline action at home Wednesday afternoon, when Sarah Lawrence travels to Farmingdale for a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader.

Men's Tennis Update (3-3, 2-1 Skyline) - Skyline report

The Rams kicked off spring-season competition this weekend with a 5-4 non-conference triumph Friday night against visiting Baruch, before registering a 9-0 decision to start Skyline play Saturday at St. Joseph's-Long Island.

Senior Mark Baker (Baldwin, N.Y.) was named Player of the Week by the Skyline for the second-consecutive week, after winning both of his No. 1 singles matches and a pair of doubles competitions.

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's side has three matches this week, with Skyline competitions versus Manhattanville (Wed., 4:30 p.m.) and at Sarah Lawrence (Sat., noon) sandwiching a non-conference tilt Friday versus visiting New Jersey City (4:30 p.m.).

Head coach Daniela Georgieva's Rams competed last Friday and Saturday at Stockton's Osprey Open in Galloway, N.J.

Men's junior Matthew Calogianes (Deer Park, N.Y.) shared Skyline Track Athlete of the Week praise, after picking up three top-10 finishes, which included a victorious 3,000-meter steeplechase effort (10:23.74) for the second straight week.

His teammate, freshman Jovany Philippe (Huntington, N.Y.), was named to the Honor Roll after placing fourth out of 38 competitors in the long jump (career-best 6.58m).

On the women's side, junior Emily Russell (Southold, N.Y.) earned Field Athlete of the Week recognition after her third-place showing in the heptathlon (3,866 points) -- the sixth-best mark in Division III this spring.

Freshman Alexxis McNeil (Valley Stream, N.Y.) was named to the Honor Roll after a career-best 200-meter dash performance (27.49) and a top-15 finish in the 100-meter dash (13.63).

Farmingdale State is off this week, and will next compete on Sunday, April 24, at the Skyline Conference Championships in Kings Point, N.Y.
