FSC Athletics Winter Update #5

New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the Winter weekly report #5 on Monday, December 13th, including Player of the Week, Rookie of the Week, Honor Roll and Conference statistics for men's and women's basketball.

Women's Basketball Update (4-4, 2-3 Skyline) - Skyline Full Report

Farmingdale State was 2-0 last week, defeating Manhattanville, 73-70, in overtime, before earning a 89-73 win over John Jay.

Freshman forward Layla Mendoza (Westhampton Beach, N.Y.) was named to Skyline Conference Player of the Week Honor Roll. Mendoza averaged a team-leading 27.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for FSC. In the OT win versus Manhattanville, she recorded a double-double with a game-high 26 points and 10 rebounds. In the victory over John Jay, she tallied a game-high 29 points on 14-of-21 shooting. Medzona is currently ranked 11th in the Nation for scoring.

The women's basketball team is off this week and next travels to the Western Connecticut Tournament on Thursday, December 30th and Friday, December 31st. The Rams will play SUNY Poly on Thursday at 6:00 p.m., while WestConn hosts Elms at 4:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.

 

Men's Basketball Update (4-6, 1-1 Skyline) - Skyline Full Report

The Rams were 1-1 last week with a win at Brooklyn, 66-63, and a home loss to Wesleyan, 85-80.

Sophomore guard Zamere McKenzie (Beacon, N.Y.) was named to the Honor Roll after leading the Rams with a team-high 21 points per game. In the win at Brooklyn, he scored 18 points (4-of-7 from 3-point range) and had six rebounds. McKenzie followed with a career-high 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-for-6 from behind the arc, versus Wesleyan (CT).

FSC plays a non-conference game this week: Saturday at Ramapo @ 2:00 p.m.
