Women's Tennis Makes It Two Straight With 8-1 Decision at Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. | The Farmingdale State College women's tennis team moved its record to 2-1 on the young season with its second-consecutive victory Saturday afternoon at the APEX Tennis Courts, conceding just one game across its three doubles match en route to an 8-1 triumph at Lehman College (0-1).

The visiting Rams' Nos. 2 and 3 doubles flights each won their matches by 8-0 scores to start the afternoon. At No. 2, freshmen Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) downed Mary Grande and Effie Pang, while the No. 3 contingent consisting of sophomores Natasha Henderson (Patchogue, N.Y.) and Luisa Valencia Castaneda (Huntington, N.Y.) defeated Jasmine Huerta and Shelby Gonzalez. FSC's top-flight duo, senior Anastasia Hoffman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.), rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-1 decision versus Viola Audyli and Caroline Lopez.

Farmingdale State's Nos. 2-through-6 singles players all earned straight-sets victories to lock up the team match, dropping just a combined seven games along the way. Collings defeated Lopez, 6-0 and 6-2, at the second flight, while the winners in the Nos. 3 to 6 flights for the visitors included freshman Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.), senior Mia Murrell (Shirley, N.Y.), and freshmen Mikayla DeMaria (W. Babylon, N.Y.) and Rebecca Ness (Clintondale, N.Y.).

Head coach Adam Waterhouse's Rams are back in non-conference play Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 14), when they travel to Madison, N.J., for a 4 p.m. first serve at Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham.
