Rams Drop Season Opener to Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh State - 6, Farmingdale State - 3


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The FSC women's tennis team hosted Plattsburgh State in their season opener on Saturday morning and fell, 6-3. The Rams took a 2-1 lead following doubles play, but lost five of six singles matches in defeat.

The top Farmingdale State (0-1) pairing of senior Anastasia Hoffman (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Lien Collings (Merrick, N.Y.) earned an 8-5 win over Cydney Bond and Hallie Hurwitz, while freshmen Amanda Jones (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) and MacKenzie Gisler (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) took second doubles, 8-2, against Alyana Leandry and Jackie Svanter.

After Hoffman picked up a 6-2, 6-2 decision at #1 singles, the Cardinals swept the second through sixth matches, including a pair of come-from-behind victories.

At second singles, Collings captured the first set, 7-5, before Leandry won the second set, 6-4, and the third, 6-1.

Hurwitz dropped the first set of the fifth singles match against Farmingdale State freshman Heather McGullam (Hauppauge, N.Y.), 6-1, but came back to win the second set, 6-3, and the third set, 6-4, to close out the 6-3 victory for Plattsburgh.

The Rams will next play host to Skyline Conference opponent Yeshiva University for a match on Wednesday, September 7th at 4:00 p.m.
