Farmingdale State Ends Historic Season at Second Round of NCAA's

Ewing, N.J. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team fell to #7 The College of New Jersey, 1-0, this afternoon in the Second Round of the NCAA DIII Tournament. After earning their first ever NCAA win on Saturday, the Rams end their season 17-4-3 overall. In addition to their first top-25 national ranking by the United Soccer Coaches, FSC tied the single-season school record with 17 wins and 56 total assists this season. The 2018 team also ranks second all-time with 14 shutouts, 72 goals scored and 200 total points.

TCNJ (15-1-1) has advanced in the NCAA Tournament and will play the defending National Champions #5 Williams (17-1-2) in the Round of 16.

The Lions scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute. A foul on Farmingdale State set up a free kick for junior defender Jen McGrogan (Pompton Plains, N.J.). McGrogan sent the ball to sophomore forward Randi Smith (Wayne, N.J.) who controlled the ball inside the box and scored from five yards out.

TCNJ recorded all five shots over the remainder of the half but were unable to score as they went into the break leading, 1-0.

The Lions controlled the early part of the second half as they tallied four shots in the first 13:06. The Rams produced their first shot of the contest in the 66th minute but Tara Lyons' (Wantagh, N.Y.) header went wide of the net.

FSC was unable to score over the final 24:38 as the Lions earned the 1-0 victory.

Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) made four saves in the loss.
