Farmingdale State - 1, Scranton - 1 (F/2OT)
Scranton, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team and the University of Scranton finished in a 1-1 double overtime tie last night in a non-conference game at Scranton. The Rams now stand at 4-1-1 on the year, while the Royals are 4-0-1.
With nine minutes remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State struck first when senior midfielder Allison Khare (Deer Park, N.Y.) knocked in a loose ball in front of the net to put the Rams on top, 1-0. Scranton junior defender Rebecca Russo (South Windsor, Conn.) scored to tie the game at 1-1 on Hope Drewes' (Yardley, Penn.) free kick with only eight seconds left on the clock. The game headed into the break tied 1-1 despite the Royals out shooting FSC 11-5 in the half.
After a scoreless second half, Khare attempted the only shot in the first overtime but it was stopped by Royals senior goalie Colleen Berry (Ridgewood, N.Y.). With just under three minutes remaining in the second OT, FSC tallied another shot on goal that was stopped by Berry. With 19 seconds on the clock, FSC junior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) stopped Scranton sophomore forward Corinne McDonald (Chalfont, Penn.) on the final shot of the game as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Royals outshot Farmingdale State, 14-9, and held a 5-2 corner kick advantage for the game.
Ford finished with five saves, while Berry recorded four stops.
The Rams are right back at it today, Saturday, September 15th as they play host to non-conference opponent SUNY Geneseo at 1:00 p.m.
