RIT Deals Rams First Loss of the Season

Dallas, Penn. - In a non-conference women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon, Farmingdale State fell, 3-2, to Rochester Institute of Technology at Misericordia. This was FSC's first loss of the season and they now stand at 4-1, while the Tigers improved to 3-1.

Trailing 1-0 early in the second half, Farmingdale State evened the score on a Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) goal off the pass by sophomore midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon, N.Y.). With 22:56 remaining, the Rams took the lead, 2-1, on an unassisted goal by junior defender Brenda Vargas (Brentwood, N.Y.).

Only 1:01 later, RIT sophomore midfielder Jessica Jones (Holden, Mass.) scored off Emily Thiel's corner kick to tie the game at 2-2. In the 79th minute of play, RIT senior forward Marla Roberts (Penfield, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal after netting the rebound in front off the shot by Lauren Zeglen (Scotia, N.Y.).

Farmingdale State was held to one shot over the final 11:33 as they fell, 3-2.

FSC junior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) tallied four saves, while sophomore Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) stopped eight shots in the victory.

The Rams next travel to the University of Scranton for a non-conference game on Friday, September 14th at 7:00 p.m.
