Troy, N.Y. - For the second straight game, freshman forward Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored a game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Farmingdale State women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory. Just 46 seconds into today's overtime period, Martinez gathered the loose ball and netted the goal as the Rams defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Engineers (1-1) controlled the first 45 minutes outshooting FSC 9-3 and holding a 4-0 corner kick advantage. In the second half, each team recorded just two shots on goal as the game headed into overtime scoreless.

In overtime, Martinez would send a pass up the field that was knocked away by RPI goalkeeper Joey Lyons (Harwood, MD). Martinez quickly recovered the loose ball and shot it past a diving defender leading the Rams to the 1-0 victory.

FSC junior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) made six saves as she notched her second straight shutout. Lyons ended with five saves for RPI.

Farmingdale State next plays host to non-conference opponent Trinity (Conn.) for their home opener on Wednesday, September 5th at 6:00 p.m.
