Martinez's Double OT Goal Leads FSC Past Buffalo St. in Season Opener

Troy, N.Y. - With 5:57 remaining in the second overtime, freshman forward Julissa Martinez (Brentwood, N.Y.) was fouled in the box and converted the penalty kick goal to give the Farmingdale State women's soccer team a 1-0 season-opening victory over Buffalo State this evening.

In the first 90 minutes, the Bengals held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks, but was outshot by the Rams, 12-3. In the first overtime, FSC tallied one shot on goal and one corner kick while holding Buffalo State without a shot.

Farmingdale State controlled play early in the second overtime, recording a pair of shots and a corner kick in the first 3:14. In the 105th minute of the contest, Martinez would be fouled and bury the penalty kick to secure the Rams 1-0 victory.

FSC junior goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) made one save in the shutout, while Bengals junior goalie Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush, N.Y.) stopped five shots in defeat.

Farmingdale State returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they play RPI at 1:30 p.m. on the final day of the Engineers Cup.
