#8 Carnegie Mellon - 1, Farmingdale State - 0
Pittsburgh, Penn. - In the First Round of the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship, Farmingdale State traveled to #8 Carnegie Mellon University this evening and fell, 1-0. The Rams finish the season 13-8-2 overall, while the Tartans improve to 14-2-2. Carnegie Mellon advances to the Second Round, which will be played tomorrow night, Sunday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m.
Tartan senior forward Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash.) scored the lone goal of the first half after a shot by junior defender Emily Tolmer (Bridgeville, Penn.) was blocked and she was able to bury the rebound in the 25th minute.
Carnegie Mellon registered 11 shots and three corner kicks as they controlled the first half action.
With 6:29 remaining and FSC still trailing 1-0, sophomore defender Elizabeth Dasilva (Franklin Square, N.Y.) entered the game and quickly tallied a pair of shots on goal, but both were saved by Tartan freshman goalkeeper Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo.).
Farmingdale State's final shot of the game came off a Tara Lyons (Wantagh, N.Y.) corner kick with 4:44 left, which was headed by Dasilva just wide of the net.
Botz recorded four saves for the Tartans in the second half to preserve the 1-0 First Round victory.
Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) stopped seven shots in defeat.
The winner of Franklin/Arcadia will face Carnegie Mellon tomorrow night in Second Round action.
