Farmingdale State - 2, #9 Trinity (Conn.) - 1
Hartford, Conn. - Farmingdale State sophomore goalkeeper Daniella Ford (Elmont, N.Y.) totaled a career-high 13 saves in a non-conference women's soccer game on Thursday evening at #9 Trinity. The win marks the first time in program history that FSC women's soccer has defeated a top-10 ranked team. The Rams improved to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Bantams fell in their season opener and stand at 0-1.
Farmingdale State opened the scoring in the 20th minute as sophomore defender Tara Lyons (Wantagh, N.Y.) booted one from 40 yards out to give FSC the 1-0 advantage. The Bantams outshot the Rams 10-3 in the first half, but went into the break trailing by one.
Four minutes into the second half, a save by Ford off a corner kick led to a feed by Lyons and a goal for FSC freshman midfielder Brittney Starzee (Babylon, N.Y.). The Rams held a 2-0 lead with just under 40 minutes to play.
After a goal by Bantam junior midfielder Taylor Kirchgessner (Southampton, N.Y.) cut the Trinity deficit to one, Ford tallied five saves en route to the non-conference victory, 2-1.
Lyons finished with three points on her goal and assist, while Starzee recorded two points on the night.
FSC next travels to play non-conference opponent Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday, September 9th at 3:30 p.m.
