Troy, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 1-1 tie against Buffalo State at the Engineers Cup hosted by RPI in Troy, N.Y.

With only 4:51 remaining in the first, Farmingdale State freshman midfielder Brittney Starzee (West Babylon, N.Y.) tallied her first collegiate goal to give the Rams a 1-0 edge late in the half. After taking the lead, the FSC defense did not allow a Buffalo State shot in the final minutes of the first half and took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

The Bengals evened the score at 1-1 only 7:39 into the second on a header by senior midfielder Victoria Colotti (New Windsor, N.Y.) off the feed from freshman defender Samantha Brick (Newfane, N.Y.). The Rams out shot Buffalo State 5-2 the remainder of the half but neither team was able to score as the game headed to overtime.

In a scoreless first overtime, Farmingdale State held the Bengals to zero shots, while attempting four. The game ended in a 1-1 tie as neither team had a shot in the second OT.

FSC returns to action tomorrow afternoon for the final day of the Engineers Cup when they square off against host school RPI at 1:30 p.m.
