Early Goals Lead NYU Past Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - NYU scored two goals in the first half en route to the 2-1 non-conference women's soccer victory at Farmingdale State this afternoon.

In the 8th minute, NYU's (4-1) Teressa Fazio (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) tallied an unassisted score from 10 yards out to give the Violets the early 1-0 advantage. With 7:57 left to play in the first half, freshman forward Alex Benedict (Avon, Conn.) scored off Charlotte Herbertz's (Bradenton, Fla.) cross in front to increase the NYU lead to 2-0. The Violets held an 11-5 shot advantage in the first half as they took the 2-0 lead into the break.

Less than nine minutes into the second, FSC (0-4-2) senior midfielder Alena Gannon* (North Babylon, N.Y.) was fouled in the box and converted on her penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1. The NYU defense held the Rams to only three shots for the remainder of the game as the Violets earned the 2-1 non-conference win.

Freshman goalkeeper Daniela Ford (Dix Hills, N.Y.) had five saves for Farmingdale State, while senior Cassie Steinberg (Boca Raton, Fla.) recorded two saves in the victory.

FSC next will travel to Scranton on Saturday, September 17th at 1:00 p.m.
