Rams Fall in Semifinals to St. Joe's on Penalty Kicks

# 4 St. Joseph's-LI - 0, #1 Farmingdale State - 0 (SJC wins 7-6 in PK's)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale State women's soccer team lost in penalty kicks to #4 St. Joseph's-LI in the Skyline Conference Semifinals this evening in Farmingdale, N.Y.

After a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation, St. Joe's (8-9-2) had the only two shots in the first overtime but both were saved by freshman goalkeeper Karla Gomes (Carle Place, N.Y.).

In double OT, each team took two shots; however, no one was able to break the 0-0 tie and the game headed to penalty kicks.

The Rams (12-5-3) trailed 4-3 in penalty kicks before a score from senior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) tied it at 4-4. The Golden Eagles had a kick to win by senior midfielder Megan Leun (Hauppauge, N.Y.) but a diving save by Gomes extended the game.

Farmingdale State's Casey Fackner (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Kathryn Condron (Ridge, N.Y.) each converted to tie the PK's at 5-5. In the next session, FSC's Alexandria Tudisco (Massapequa, N.Y.) and SJC's Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y.) both scored to force the next round.

After a miss by the Rams, freshman midfielder Emily Lenartowicz (East Fishkill, N.Y.) converted on her attempt to lead St. Joe's to the victory.

The Golden Eagles now advance to the Skyline Conference Finals where they will face #3 Mount Saint Mary College on Saturday.
