FSC Defeats Buffalo State in Rams Classic

Farmingdale State - 3, Buffalo State - 1


Farmingdale, N.Y. - In the first game of the 2015 Rams Classic, the Farmingdale State women's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Buffalo State. With the win, the Rams improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Bengals fell to 1-1.

Less that four minutes into the game, junior midfielder Ashley Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.) scored off Ashlee Thompson's (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) cross to put Farmingdale State ahead, 1-0.

Buffalo State junior forward Melissa Smith (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) tied the game at 1-1 in the 24th minute with an unassisted goal from 20 yards out.

With 26:03 remaining, the Rams regained the lead, 2-1, as Thompson scored on a header off the feed from senior midfielder Melissa Lijo (Flushing, N.Y.). Sophomore forward Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) tallied the final goal of the game after scoring on a breakaway from midfield. Farmingdale State earned the 3-1 home non-conference victory.

Senior goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) recorded one save in 62 minutes of action, while freshman Karla Gomes (Carle Place, N.Y.) had one save in 28 minutes of work for the Rams.

FSC next will host RPI for the final day of the Rams Classic at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow. Western Connecticut and Buffalo State will square off at 11:30 a.m.
