Freshmen Lead Rams in Season Opening Victory

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshmen Alyssa Parrotta (Centereach, N.Y.) and Destiny Pomarico (West Babylon, N.Y.) each scored goals as Farmingdale State opened the 2015 season with a 2-0 victory over Western Connecticut State.

With 23:55 remaining, Farmingdale State (1-0) senior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) narrowly missed a scoring opportunity with a shot over the crossbar after breaking through the defense.

Only 6:39 later, Parrotta broke the scoreless tie as she lofted a shot over the goalkeeper to put the Rams ahead, 1-0. In the 79th minute, Colonials' (0-1) sophomore forward Autumn Sorice (Bethel, Conn.) nearly tied the game as her shot hit the right post.

Pomarico scored the final goal of the evening with 49 seconds remaining as the Rams earned the 2-0 non-conference victory.

Senior goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) stopped five shots for FSC, while sophomore Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, Conn.) recorded five saves in the loss.

Farmingdale State next will host Buffalo State in the first game of the Rams Classic on Saturday, September 5th at 11:30 a.m.
