2014 Women's Soccer Season Recap


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The women's soccer team captured their eighth straight Skyline Conference Championship after earning the top-seed and defeating #2 Mount Saint Mary, 2-1, at the Fall Festival in Purchase, N.Y.

The Rams earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament and traveled to #15 Johns Hopkins for their first round game. The Blue Jays earned a 4-0 victory over Farmingdale State as the Rams finished the 2014 season with a 14-6-3 record.

The women's soccer team had seven players named All-Conference this season. Junior Andrea Kiefer* (Centereach, N.Y.) was named the Defensive Player of the Year and freshman forward Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) earned Rookie of the Year honors. Joining the pair on the First Team were junior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Alena Gannon (North Babylon, N.Y.). Second Team All-Stars included senior defender Samantha Kender* (Farmingdale, N.Y.), junior midfielder Melissa Lijo* (Flushing, N.Y.) and junior goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.).

Kiefer and Thompson were both named NSCAA Second Team All-East Region. Head Coach Chris Roche garnered 2014 Division III East Region Coach of the Year honors.

Thompson led the Rams in goals (17), assists (10), points (44) and game-winning scores (6), while Howard tallied 13 goals, 28 points and six game-winners. Gannon was second on the team in assists (8) and third in both goals (8) and points (22) this season.

Lijo pitched in with six goals and five assists, while sophomore midfielder Amanda Khare (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded 13 points on five goals and three assists.

Blair started every game in goal and held a 1.13 goals against average and totaled 109 saves with an .820 save percentage.

Farmingdale State graduated four seniors this year.
