Kansas City, Mo. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) announced the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III All-Region teams on Wednesday, December 3rd.
Farmingdale State junior defender Andrea Kiefer (Centereach, N.Y.) and junior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) were both selected Second Team All-East Region, while Head Coach Chris Roche was named the Regional Coach of the Year.
Kiefer, who garners her second career All-Region award, is a team Captain and 3-Time All-Conference selection. She was also named this year's Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Year, a title she also won in 2012. She anchored the Farmingdale State defense that recorded seven shutouts and yielded just seven goals in conference play with a 0.73 goals against average. The junior back compiled five assists this season, which ranked second-most on the team and a career-high.
Thompson picks up her second straight All-Region award, after being named this year's Skyline Tournament MVP and leading the team in goals (17), assists (10), points (44) and game-winning goals (6). Her 44 points this year bested her own school record for points in a season. In the Skyline, she posted a conference-leading six game winning goals, while also ranking second in points, third for goals and fourth in assists. In conference games, she led the Skyline with 28 points. Nationally, she finished ranked 22nd for game-winners and 33rd for points.
Coach Roche, who holds a career coaching record of 129-72-13 over 10 seasons, was named the 2014 Division III East Region Coach of the Year after winning his 8th straight Skyline Conference Championship and finishing with an overall record of 14-6-3. His team finished 38th in the Nation for Scoring Offense with 2.87 points per game and also finished 22nd in the Nation for Points (185) and Goals (66).
