Rams Defeat St. Joe’s; Advance to Skyline Finals

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The top-seeded Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's 6-0 this afternoon in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference playoffs. The Rams clinched in a berth in the finals which will take place during the Skyline Fall Festival at Purchase College on Saturday.

After the Rams narrowly missed on a few early opportunities, Farmingdale State's Amanda Khare (Deer Park, N.Y.) connected on a header off the long crossing pass by Alexandria Tudisco (Massapequa, N.Y.) to take a 1-0 lead with 27:23 remaining in the first half.

With 16:28 left to play, the Rams (13-5-3) increased their lead to 2-0 on an Andrea Kiefer* (Centereach, N.Y.) header off the corner kick by Melissa Lijo* (Flushing, N.Y.).

In the 42nd minute, Lijo put Farmingdale State ahead by three after scoring in the top right corner of the net from 40 yards out. Only 2:09 later, sophomore forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored off the feed from junior midfielder Brianne Borthwick (West Babylon, N.Y.) to open up a 4-0 advantage.

Farmingdale State outshot the Golden Eagles (7-12-3) 15-2 and held an 8-0 corner kick advantage as they took their 4-0 lead into the break.

Early in the second half, sophomore forward Alena Gannon (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored off the rebound on freshman forward Taylor Howard's (Massapequa, N.Y.) shot to increase the lead to 5-0.

Howard tacked on a second half goal to cap off the 6-0 win for the Rams.

The Rams will now face the winner of #2 Mount Saint Mary/#3 Sage in the Skyline Finals at Purchase on Saturday, November 8th at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the championship game receives the conference's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
