Strong Second Half Leads Top-Ranked Messiah Past Rams

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team played host to #1 Messiah today in a non-conference game and fell, 3-0.

In the 18th minute, the Falcons (16-0-1) nearly broke the scoreless tie as junior forward Holly Bugard's (Mechanicsburg, Penn.) shot hit the right post. Less than 10 minutes later, sophomore forward Alena Gannon (North Babylon, N.Y.) almost put the Rams (11-5-3) on top but a fingertip save by junior goalkeeper Audra Larson (Montoursville, Penn.) kept the game tied at 0-0.

Messiah held a 6-2 shot advantage as the game went into the halftime break at 0-0.

Only 45 seconds into the second half, the Falcons took a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore forward Erin Sollenberger (Elizabethtown, Penn.) as Marisa Weaver (Carlisle, Penn.) recorded the assist.

With 41:33 remaining, Messiah increased their advantage to 2-0 on a score by junior forward Nikki Elsaesser (Old Bridge, N.J.). Senior defender Hannah Weyland (Marietta, Penn.) added an unassisted goal 5:17 later to put Messiah ahead by three.

The Rams were unable to connect throughout the remainder of the second half and fell, 3-0.

Farmingdale State next will close out the regular season as they travel to Maritime for a Skyline Conference game on Monday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m.
