Rams, Knights End in 1-1 Tie on Senior Day

Farmingdale State - 1, Mount Saint Mary College - 1  F/2OT

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team and Mount Saint Mary College ended in a 1-1 tie this afternoon in a rematch of last year's Skyline Championship game. Today was senior day at Farmingdale State and five seniors: Samantha Kender (Farmingdale, N.Y.), Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.), Andrea Kiefer* (Centereach, N.Y.), Christine Campanello (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Bethany Bianco (Babylon, N.Y.) were each honored before the game.

Only 1:29 into the contest, the Rams (10-4-3, 5-0-1) nearly took a 1-0 lead as Campanello's shot hit the crossbar and Johrden's header off the rebound was saved.

With 9:08 left to play in the first half, Mount Saint Mary (10-4-1, 4-0-1) broke the scoreless tie on an unassisted goal from senior forward Marissa Segreto (West Islip, N.Y.) as she connected from 25 yards out. The Knights took their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

A diving save by Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) to stop Jordyn Catapano's (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) shot in the 57th minute kept the Mount Saint Mary advantage at 1-0.

Junior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored with 2:24 left in regulation to tie the game at 1-1 after Mount Saint Mary turned the ball over in front of their own net.

After a scoreless first overtime, neither team was able to connect in the second OT as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Blair recorded five saves for Farmingdale State, while freshman Mary Riley (Newburgh, N.Y.) stopped seven shots for the Knights.

The Rams next will host Old Westbury in a conference game on Tuesday, October 21st at 3:00 p.m.
