Farmingdale, N.Y. - Farmingdale State's women's soccer team today defeated conference opponent The Sage Colleges, 6-0. The Rams improved to 6-2-2 overall and a perfect 2-0 in the Skyline, while the Gators now stand at 4-3-2, 1-1.

Farmingdale State jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with 34:02 remaining after junior midfielder Shannon Murphy (North Babylon, N.Y.) possessed her own rebound and scored an unassisted goal.

With 9:28 left to play in the first half, an Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) score off Melissa Lijo*'s (Flushing, N.Y.) cross in front increased the Rams' advantage to 2-0. Farmingdale State controlled the first half allowing only two shots, one of which was on goal.

In the second half, the Rams added four goals, including two from freshman forward Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and one from sophomore midfielders Ashley Appel (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Alexis Caracappa (Wantagh, N.Y.).

Junior goalie Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) tallied 5 saves in the victory in just under 80 minutes of action.

The women's soccer team next will travel to New York University for a non-conference match on Monday, September 29th at 7:00 p.m.
