Thompson Connects Twice in Victory over Eastern

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Junior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored two early first half goals to lead the Farmingdale State women's soccer team to a 3-1 non-conference victory over Eastern University this afternoon.

Only 3:02 into the game, Thompson converted on a penalty kick to put Farmingdale State (5-2-2) ahead 1-0. Thompson recorded her second goal of the game in the 9th minute on a breakaway to extend the lead to 2-0.

With 6:44 left to play in the opening half, Farmingdale State narrowly missed a goal on Shannon Murphy's (North Babylon, N.Y.) shot off the corner kick from Meghan Cleary (East Meadow, N.Y.). The Rams outshot Eastern (2-7) 13-5 and held a 3-0 corner kick advantage in the first half.

In the second half, Farmingdale State increased their lead to 3-0 with 14:24 remaining on an Ashley Appel (Bellmore, N.Y.) goal off the pass by freshman forward Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, N.Y.).

Eastern senior forward Emily Roquemore (Camp Hill, Penn.) scored the team's only goal of the contest on a penalty kick with 21 seconds remaining.

Junior goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) stopped six shots in just under 81 minutes of action for the Rams.

Farmingdale State next will host Sage in a Skyline Conference game on Saturday, September 27th at 2:00 p.m.
