Rams End in Tie with Scranton

Scranton, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team and the University of Scranton ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday afternoon. The Rams are now 3-2-2 on the year, while the Royals stand at 3-3-1.

Scranton jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as freshman forward Samantha Wargo (Kings Park, N.Y.) scored on a header off a free kick by sophomore forward Kelly Egan (Essex Falls, N.J.) in the 25th minute.

Farmingdale State tied the game at 1-1 with 2:39 remaining in the first half on an Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) goal off Andrea Kiefer's (Centereach, N.Y.) free kick.

Neither team was able to connect with a score in the second half despite the Rams holding a 7-5 shot advantage.

Two scoreless overtime periods led the Rams to a 1-1 non-conference tie at Scranton.

Junior goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) tallied six saves for Farmingdale State, while sophomore Krissy Welsh (Swarthmore, Penn.) stopped nine shots for the Royals.

The Rams next open Skyline Conference play with a road match at Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m.
