Rams Hold Early Lead for Win over Skidmore

Farmingdale State - 1, Skidmore - 0

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team (1-1-1) evened their over record with a 1-0 victory over Skidmore College (0-3) today at Wachenheim Field in a non-conference game .

Freshman forward Taylor Howard (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) gave Farmingdale the only lead it would need just 4:44 into regulation. Junior defender Andrea Kiefer* (Centereach, N.Y.) played Howard through with a perfectly weighted free-kick over the back of the Skidmore defense and Howard made no mistake on the finish, lobbing home a shot from 18 yards out.

Junior forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) nearly doubled the Rams lead five minutes later, blasting a long range shot off the crossbar. The Thoroughbreds (0-3) came close off a corner midway through the first half, but Farmingdale State junior goalkeeper Brenna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) made a quick reaction to deny the headed attempt at goal.

In the second half, Skidmore's Arena Manning tested Blair with a left footed strike in the 61st minute, but again the Rams goalkeeper was up to the challenge, preserving the shutout and the 1-0 win.

Blair turned away five shots in the win, while Thoroughbreds goalkeeper Madison Plummer made two saves.

The Rams will now face #4 Ithaca tomorrow, Sunday, September 7th, in a non-conference game at Noon.
