Farmingdale State Falls to Catholic in Rams Classic

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team fell, 2-1, to Catholic University this afternoon during the second day of the Rams Classic.

Only 1:29 into the game, the Rams (0-1-1) took a 1-0 lead as junior midfielder Shannon Murphy (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored on a header off the throw in by junior Andrea Kiefer* (Centereach, N.Y.). The Cardinals (2-0) answered with a game-tying goal from Kaylre Greaves (Ocean, N.J.) only 50 seconds later. Farmingdale State out shot Catholic 7-5 and held a 2-0 corner kick advantage in the first half.

The Cardinals broke the 1-1 tie on an unassisted score from senior midfielder Caroline Hopkins (Rockledge, Penn.) in the 67th minute of action.

The Rams were held scoreless the remainder of the game as they dropped their first match of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Lexi Halperin (River Vale, N.J.) recorded four saves in the victory, while junior Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) stopped nine shots for Farmingdale State.

The Rams next will travel to Skidmore for a non-conference game on Saturday, September 6th at 2:00 p.m.
