Rams End in Draw in Season Opener

Farmingdale State - 1, Buffalo State - 1 (2OT)


Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team opened the season with their annual Rams Classic, playing host this year to Buffalo State, Western Connecticut and Catholic University. In today's opening game against Buffalo State, the Rams finished in a 1-1 double overtime tie. The second game of the day, at 4:00 p.m., will feature Western Connecticut vs. Catholic University.

After a scoreless first half, Brianna Borthwick (West Babylon, N.Y.) passed a ball up from 40 yards to junior midfielder Melissa Lijo* (Flushing, N.Y.), who chipped the ball over the goalie, putting Farmingdale State up 1-0.

With 1:16 left in regulation, senior forward Megan Chapple (Utica, N.Y.) scored on a deflected ball to force overtime. The extra 20 minutes of play would result in a draw.

The Rams will next host Catholic University on Saturday, August 30th at 2:00 p.m.
