Indianapolis, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Committee announced today the field of 64 teams for the 2013 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.
Farmingdale State (13-9) will face SUNY Oneonta (12-4-3) in the First Round on Saturday, November 16th at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of Hobart and William Smith in Geneva, N.Y. William Smith (17-1) will take on Cabrini (12-3-5) in the first game of the day at 11:00 a.m. The winner of both games will play on Sunday, November 17th at 1:00 p.m.
The Rams won their seventh consecutive Skyline Conference title on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 win over Mount Saint Mary College. Freshman Amanda Khare (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored both goals in the victory, she is now currently second in scoring on the team with 17 points (8 goals, 1 assist). The scoring has been led by sophomore Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) with 15 goals and 5 assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) holds a 10-6 overall record this season with six shutouts, and was named the Tournament MVP after posting seven saves in the Championship game.
SUNY Oneonta defeated SUNY Geneseo this past weekend, 4-1, to capture the 2013 SUNYAC title. The championship is the 12th for the Red Dragons, which is the most of any school in the SUNYAC. Karly DeSimone is the team's offensive leader with 11 goals and 7 assists to date.
The William Smith College soccer team secured its seventh straight Liberty League tournament championship with a 1-0 win over RIT on Saturday afternoon. The Herons, who are ranked No. 3 in the nation, notched their 17th straight victory.
Cabrini will make their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance after topping Rosemont College in Saturday's CSAC championship. Sophomore Devon Miller, who holds a team-leading nine goals, earned Most Valuable Player honors after netting two goals in the win.
Forty-three conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the 2013 championship. One team was selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final 20 berths were reserved for Pool C, which include institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.
Sixteen four-team sites will conduct first- and second-round play on the first weekend of the championship, November 15-16 or 16-17. Second-round winners will advance to one of four sectional sites November 22-23 or 23-24. All matches, except the semifinals and final, will be played on the campuses of competing institutions. Winners of the four sectionals will advance to the semifinals December 6-7, at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas.
In last year's finals, Messiah defeated Emory by a score of 1-0, to win the championship. It was their fifth women's soccer championship.
