Rams Advance to Skyline Championship Game

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated St. Joseph's, 3-0, today in the Skyline semifinals to advance to their seventh straight Skyline Conference Championship game. The Rams improved to 12-9 overall with the win, while the Golden Eagles finish the season with a 15-6-1 record.

Today also marked the final home game for senior midfielder Laura Rueda (Bayside, N.Y.), who played for FSC the past two seasons.

The Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the 8th minute on an Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) goal off a pass from sophomore midfielder Melissa Lijo (Flushing, N.Y.). With only 46 seconds before the break, Farmingdale State junior midfielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.) made it 2-0 on a high arching shot, assisted by Thompson.

In the second half, the Rams added the games final goal on an unassisted score by freshman defender Alexa Orlando (Holtsville, N.Y.).

Sophomore goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) had four saves for Farmingdale State, while sophomore goalkeeper Christiana Votta (East Islip, N.Y.) had five saves in defeat.

Farmingdale State will face the winner of the #1 Mount Saint Mary / #4 Old Westbury game on Saturday, November 9th as part of the Skyline Fall Festival for the 2013 Skyline Women's Soccer Championship.
