Rams Blank Sage in Skyline Opener

Albany, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated The Sage Colleges, 5-0, in their Skyline Conference opener on Saturday afternoon. The Rams improved to 5-5 on the year, while the Gators are now 1-6 and 0-2 in conference play.

Freshman forward Alena Gannon (North Babylon, N.Y.) scored off Deborah Gilwit's (New Rochelle, N.Y.) pass to break the scoreless tie with 21:20 remaining in the first half. Only 1:16 later, Farmingdale State took a 2-0 lead on a goal by sophomore forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). The Rams outshot Sage 15-1 and held a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Early in the second half, Thompson tallied her second goal of the game and eighth of the season to increase the lead to 3-0. Sophomore midfielder Shannon Murphy (North Babylon, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Amanda Khare (Deer Park, N.Y.) each added scores for the Rams in the Skyline victory.

Farmingdale State next will travel to #8 Ithaca for a non-conference game on Sunday, September 29th at 1:00 p.m.
