Women's Soccer Has Seven All-Conference Selections

- Kiefer named Defensive Player of the Year -


New York, N.Y. - The Skyline Conference released the 2012 women's soccer All-Conference Team on Thursday, November 8th. Sophomore Andrea Kiefer (Centereach, N.Y.) was named Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Skyline, while senior forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) both earned First Team honors. Senior defender Jillian Lasota (Massapequa, N.Y.), senior midfielder Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y.), freshman forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and freshman goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) were named to the Second Team.

Kiefer started every game and anchored Farmingdale State's defense, which is ranked second in the Skyline for goals allowed. She was responsible for holding the Skyline's top-3 offensive players scoreless. Kiefer ranked ninth in the conference in assists and was named the Skyline Tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Magee appeared in 18 games and was third on the team in goals scored, fourth in points and ranked tenth in the Skyline in goals. Magee is second all-time at Farmingdale State in career goals and third in both points and game-winning goals.

Merrill started every game and led the Rams with 27 points, nine assists and four game-winning goals. She tied for the Skyline lead in assists, T2 in both assists per game and game-winning goals and ranked sixth in points. Merrill is ranked 54th in the nation in total assists. She became the Farmingdale State all-time leader in career points and assists this season.

Lasota started 19 games, leading one of the conference's top defenses. She is a 4-year starter and 3-time All-Conference player for the Rams. Lasota will leave Farmingdale State with the fifth most games played in school history.

Martorano appeared in 19-of-20 games and was second on the team in assists, third in points and tied for fourth in goals scored. She is tied for third in the conference in assists, sixth in assists per game and ranked tenth in total points.

Thompson appeared in every game and had a team-leading 10 goals and was second in points. In the Skyline, she is ranked seventh in goals, eighth in both goals per game and points and tenth in points per game.

Blair played in 18 games this season and ranked second in the conference in save percentage, T2 in shutouts and third in goals against average. In Skyline matches, she allowed only three goals and held a 0.60 goals against average.
