Rams Capture Skyline Match Against Purchase

Farmingdale State - 3, Purchase - 0


Purchase, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team shutout Purchase, 3-0, in a road Skyline Conference match last night. The Rams improved to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in conference action with the victory.

With only 4:15 remaining in the first half, senior forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) put the Rams ahead 1-0 as she scored off the cross by freshman forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Farmingdale State held Purchase (6-6, 4-2) without either a shot or corner kick in first half.

In the 77th minute, Thompson increased the Rams advantage to 2-0 as she scored off a rebound in front of the net. Less than seven minutes later, freshman forward Sara Rivadeneyra (Longwood, N.Y.) scored her first career goal on a header to cap off the 3-0 victory for Farmingdale State.

The Rams outshot Purchase 25-3 and did not allow the Panthers to attempt a shot on goal.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Ithaca for a non-conference game on Saturday, October 13th at 1:00 p.m.
