Merrill Scores Pair as Rams Blank Manhattanville

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Senior forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) scored two goals and had an assist in Farmingdale State's 3-0 non-conference victory over Manhattanville this afternoon. The Rams improved to 4-4 on the season, while the Valiants fell to 3-5 overall.

Senior midfielder Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y.) gave the Rams an early 1-0 lead as she connected on the pass from Merrill in the 16th minute of action. Merrill would increase the Farmingdale State lead to 2-0 on her first score on the game with 10:53 remaining before halftime. The Rams outshot the Valiants 6-2 in the first half and held a 4-2 corner kick advantage.

Merrill tallied her second goal of the game only 6:12 after the break while freshman midfielder Melissa Lijo (Flushing, N.Y.) recorded the assist and Farmingdale State opened up a 3-0 lead. The Rams defense would hold Manhattanville scoreless and allowed only one shot on goal for the game en route to the 3-0 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Grace Kraemer (Massapequa, N.Y.) recorded four saves for Manhattanville.

Farmingdale State next will open Skyline Conference play as they travel to St. Joseph's on Wednesday, September 26th at 4:00 p.m.
