Strong Second Half Leads NYU Past Rams

NYU - 3, Farmingdale State - 1


Riverdale, N.Y. - NYU scored three second half goals en route to a 3-1 non-conference win over Farmingdale State Thursday night at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y. The Rams dropped to 3-4 overall, while the Violets improved to 4-2 on the year.

After a scoreless first half, NYU's junior forward Erin Ahmed (Dallas, Tex.) broke the tie with a goal only 3:24 after the break. Six minutes later, sophomore forward Cami Crawford (El Dorado Hills, Cal.) scored on a header off Mary Clair's (Shaker Heights, OH) corner kick to put the Violets ahead 2-0. NYU converted on another corner kick to open up a 3-0 advantage as junior midfielder Natalie Beach (New Haven, Conn.) headed the pass from Serra Tumay (Delray Beach, Fla.) with 26:50 left to play. 

The Rams cut the deficit to 3-1 with 17:38 remaining as senior forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y.) netted the feed from sophomore defender Andrea Kiefer (Centereach, N.Y.). Neither team would score over the final 17 minutes as Farmingdale State dropped the non-conference match with NYU.

Freshman goalkeeper Breanna Blair (Littleton, Colo.) recorded six saves for the Rams, while sophomore goalie Meg Patten (San Diego, Cal.) stopped two shots in the victory.

Farmingdale State next will host Manhattanville in a non-conference game on Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
