Thompson Scores Pair as Rams Capture Season Opener

Farmingdale State - 3, Buffalo State - 1


Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman forward Ashlee Thompson (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored a pair of goals as Farmingdale State defeated Buffalo State, 3-1, in their first game of the season.

Thompson put the Rams (1-0) ahead with her first career goal only 46 seconds into the contest as she was set up off the feed from freshman Shannon Murphy (North Babylon, N.Y.). Senior forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) increased Farmingdale State's lead to 2-0 only 1:19 later as she netted a pass from Thompson.

Buffalo State (0-1) cut the deficit to 2-1 with 41:41 remaining in the first half on a Katie Hennes (Hauppauge, N.Y.) goal as senior forward Melissa Mahoney (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded the assist. Neither team would score though out the remainder of the first half as the Rams took a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Thompson scored her second goal of the game off a Merrill pass with 16:41 left to play giving the Rams a 3-1 lead. Farmingdale State would hold the Bengals scoreless for the rest of the game and earned a 3-1 season opening victory. 

Farmingdale State next will host Salve Regina in the Rams Classic on Saturday, September 1st at 11:30 a.m. Tomorrow the Rams Classic will also feature Salisbury vs. Buffalo State at 1:30 p.m. and Western Connecticut vs. Geneseo at 3:30 p.m.
