Rams Fall to Misericordia in First Round

Amherst, Mass. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Misericordia University (14-4-2) on Saturday afternoon in the First Round of the NCAA DIII Tournament at Amherst College in Amherst, Mass. The Rams end the season with a record of 15-4-3.

After a scoreless first half, Cougars freshman forward Megan Lannigan (Paramus, N.J.) received a ball on the left side of the box from junior midfielder Laura Roney (Kintnersville, Pa.). Lannigan fired a shot that was deflected high by Farmingdale's keeper, but bounced over the goal line for a 1-0 lead at 46:28.

At 53:15, Farmingdale junior forward Jamie Smith (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) took a shot from 25-yards out that streaked over a jumping keeper but deflected off the top of the crossbar.

The Rams had two chances in the final two minutes, but junior goalkeeper Caitlin Sweeney (Turnersville, N.J.) made the saves for her first shutout of the season.
