MVP Magee Lifts Rams Past Knights for 5th Straight Skyline Championship

Farmingdale State - 1, Mount Saint Mary - 0

Newburgh, N.Y. – Junior forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y.) scored the games only goal, lifting the Rams to a 1-0 win over Mount Saint Mary College, and securing the fifth straight Skyline Women's Soccer Championship for Farmingdale State. The Rams improve to 15-3-3 and receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Magee was named the Tournament MVP.

The Mount held a slight 3-2 shot advantage through the first half of play, but strong defense on both ends of the field eliminated scoring opportunities. After a hard-fought first half, the game remained deadlocked at 0-0.

Magee nearly put the Rams on top in the 62nd minute of play after she beat a Mount defender to create a one-on-one opportunity with goalkeeper Jacquelyn Mancini  (Valley Stream, N.Y.). Mancini challenged Magee and teammate Lindsay Oro (Holtsville, N.Y.) cleared the ball away from the box.

Just three minutes later, a scramble in front of net forced Mancini out of position and Farmingdale State College senior Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y.) headed the ball back towards the net. Mount sophomore defender Tara McDermott (Tewksbury, N.J.) headed the ball off the goal line to keep the Rams off the board.

After two stellar scoring opportunities, Magee struck with the game-winner in the 70th minute. Magee, an Indoor Track All-American and the schools record holder in the 55-meter and 200-meter Dashes, created a one-on-one opportunity by streaking past a Mount Saint Mary defender and dribbling towards the box, where she then fired a shot. Mancini blocked Magee's first attempt, but Magee redirected the rebound into the back of the net to put the Rams on top, 1-0.

With just five minutes remaining, Mount sophomore Sara Sheehan (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) had a chance to tie the game, but her shot was turned away by a Ram defender to solidify the win for Farmingdale State College.

Mancini finished with five saves and the Knights tallied ten shots.

The Knights (17-3-1) now await a possible selection to the ECAC Metro Region Tournament.
