Rams Advance to Skyline Finals with Home Shutout

#2 Farmingdale State – 6, #3 Old Westbury - 0


Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State women's soccer team defeated Old Westbury, 6-0, this afternoon to advance to a fifth straight Skyline Championship game. The Rams improved to 14-3-3 overall with the win, while the Panthers dropped to 9-8-1.

Sophomore midfielder Nora Connolly (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) opened the scoring in the 7th minute off a pass from junior forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y.) for a quick 1-0 lead. Senior defender Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y.) headed in a corner kick from junior forward Jamie Smith (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to push the advantage to 2-0. With 20 minutes left in the half, Merrill sent home a ball from junior forward Corine Magee (Mastic, N.Y.) and Farmingdale State held a 3-0 lead at the break.

In the second, Cerverizzo headed in another corner off a Smith kick extending the lead to 4-0. Merrill and Smith each added a goal as the Rams ran away with the 6-0 shutout victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Thomas (Patchogue, N.Y.) made eight saves in defeat for Old Westbury.

Farmingdale State will face the winner of tonight's #4 St. Joseph's/#1 Mount Saint Mary game on Saturday, November 5th, to be played at the highest remaining seed.
