Rams Drop Road Match at Scranton

University of Scranton - 3, Farmingdale State - 1


Scranton, Penn. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team fell on the road, 3-1, in a non-conference game against the University of Scranton on Saturday evening. The Rams now hold an 8-2-2 overall record, while the Royals improved to 6-1-2.

Scranton's junior midfielder Sarah Gibbons (Monroe Twp., N.J.) scored on a header off a corner kick by Sydney Parker (Randolph, N.J.) 14:20 into the game to put the Royals ahead 1-0. Scranton increased their lead to 2-0 as sophomore midfielder Rebecca Hextall (Manhattan Beach, Cal.) scored off a cross from the left side nine minutes later. The University of Scranton took a 2-0 advantage into the break.

Trailing 3-0 late in the second half, Farmingdale State junior forward Jamie Smith (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal to break the shutout. The Royals held a 13-12 shot advantage in the 3-1 victory.

The Rams next will travel to Maritime for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, October 4th at 7:00 p.m.
