Johrden's First Career Goal Sinks Bard in Double Overtime

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Freshman midfielder Sam Johrden (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal just 27 seconds into the second overtime period as the Rams defeated non-conference opponent Bard, 1-0. Farmingdale State improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Raptors fell to 0-2.

In the first half, the Rams held a 5-1 shot advantage over Bard. Sophomore midfielder Erica Newton (Berkeley, Cal.) missed a scoring opportunity for Bard late in the half as she took a shot from the right side which was blocked by Farmingdale State senior defender Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y.).

In the 86th minute of action, freshman forward Alana Shaw (San Francisco, Cal.) could not capitalize on a breakaway opportunity for the Raptors, as she missed the open shot wide right. Neither team would score over the final three minutes of regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime, junior Theresa Martorano (Commack, N.Y.) setup Johrden who dodged a defender and netted the winning score 27 seconds into the second overtime.

The Rams will host Buffalo State in the Farmingdale State Tournament tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Western New England will face Salisbury at 3:00 p.m. followed by Bard and Ursinus who will play the weekends final game at 5:00 p.m.
