Johns Hopkins Defeats Rams in Opening Round of NCAA's

Johns Hopkins - 2, Farmingdale State - 0

Baltimore, Md. - The Farmingdale State women's soccer team was defeated by 12th ranked Johns Hopkins University (17-3-1) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday evening. The Rams finish the season with a 17-5 overall record.

Johns Hopkins broke the scoreless tie 29:42 into the contest, as freshman forward Pamela Vranis (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) scored off the feed from freshman Kelly Baker (Ridgefield, CT./Ridgefield). Baker scored John Hopkins second goal of the game nine minutes later on a give and go into the box by freshman midfielder Amanda Yaccarino (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven). Junior goalkeeper Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) made six saves in the first half for Farmingdale State, as the Rams went into the break trailing 2-0.

Farmingdale State tightened their defense in the second half, holding the Blue Jays scoreless for the entire period. The Rams attempted two shots on goal after halftime, but were unable to cut into the 2-0 lead. Maass totaled 11 saves in goal for Farmingdale.

The Rams will be graduating only one senior this year, so they should be returning the core of their team for the 2011 season.
