Merrill Named Player of the Year; Cerverizzo, Lasota, Smith, Golden Named All-Conference

Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) was named Skyline Conference Player of the Year for women's soccer. Junior defender Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) was named to the First Team, while freshman forward Sarah Golden (Greenport, N.Y./Greenport), sophomore midfielder Jamie Smith (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem East) and sophomore defender Jillian Lasota (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) received Second Team honors.

Merrill led the team in points (29) and assists (13). Merrill is ranked 11th in the nation in assists and 23rd in Division III with a 0.62 assist per game average. She is ranked second all-time at Farmingdale State with 13 assists in a single season and led the Skyline Conference in assists and assists per game. Christina is third on the team with eight goals scores, including three game-winners. Merrill also led the team with 19 points in Skyline Conference games.

Cerverizzo started every game leading the top-ranked Skyline defense which allowed only two goals in 10 conference games. The Rams shutout eight of 10 Skyline opponents this season. Cerverizzo scored two goals and recorded seven assists from her defensive position.

Golden, one of only three players to start every game, scored a team-high nine goals and had eight assists. Golden had 26 points, which ranks second on the team. Sarah is ranked fourth in the Skyline in assists, sixth in assists per game and tenth in points.

Smith scored seven goals and had three assists for 17 total points. She led the Skyline's top-ranked offense and defense from her midfield position. Smith was the only player on Farmingdale State to convert a penalty kick this season.

Lasota led all defenders with four goals scored. She anchored a defense that led the conference in goals allowed (11), goals against average (0.52) and ranked second in shutouts with 13.
