Rams to Face Johns Hopkins in Opening Round of NCAA's

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Division III Women's Soccer Tournament bracket has been released by the NCAA and Farmingdale State College will face Johns Hopkins University in the opening round. The Rams will travel to the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland to play on Saturday, November 13th at 5:00 p.m. The second game at the site will feature Hamilton College and Virginia Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. The winner of each game will square off in the second round on Sunday, November 14th at 6:00 p.m.
Farmingdale State finished the season with a 17-4 overall record (12-0 home) and won their fourth consecutive Skyline Championship. The Rams defeated Mount Saint Mary 1-0 in the title game, earning the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Rams finished the regular season with a 9-1 record in the Skyline Conference. Sophomore forward Christina Merrill (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) led the way with a team-high 29 points. Merrill has scored eight goals, including three game-winners and recorded 13 assists, while freshman midfielder Sarah Golden (Greenport, N.Y./Greenport) has scored nine goals and tallied eight assists. Junior midfielder and Skyline Tournament Most Valuable Player Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) has scored two goals, one of which was the game-winner over Mount Saint Mary in the Skyline Finals. Junior goalkeeper Amanda Maass (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) started 14 games in goal for Farmingdale State, holding a 0.55 goals against average. Sophomore Stacey Rao (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) played 11 games in goal and has an impressive 9-0 record in net.
Johns Hopkins is currently ranked 14th in the nation and enters the NCAA Tournament with a 16-3-1 record. The Blue Jays defeated #11 Dickinson, 3-0, earning the Centennial Conference's automatic bid. Johns Hopkins has now captured the Centennial Conference title for the sixth straight year.
