Rams Claim Fourth Straight Skyline Title

Farmingdale State – 1, Mount Saint Mary – 0

Farmingdale, N.Y. – The Farmingdale State women's soccer team claimed their fourth straight Skyline Title this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary College (12-10). With the win, the Rams (17-4) receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2010 NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Farmingdale State was knocking on the door all day, with a 17-3 shot advantage at the half and 30-4 throughout, but great play from Knights senior goalkeeper Megan Cotta (Point Pleasant, N.J./St. Rose) would keep the game scoreless until the 86th minute. Cotta made five saves in the first half and two saves in the second, while her team halted two scoring opportunities with two team saves.

The Rams relentless pressure finally paid off, as junior midfielder Katrina Cerverizzo (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches) converted a pass from sophomore forward Yvonne Santos (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) for the eventual game-winning goal, with just 3:22 remaining in the second. Cerverizzo was named the Skyline Tournament MVP.

The Rams now await word of their opponent for the upcoming tournament, which will be announced on Monday, November 8th at 9:00 a.m. Watch on www.ncaasports.com as they broadcast the live Selection Show to announce the Division III Championship Bracket. First Round games begin on Thursday, November 11th.
