Vogiatzis Scores Six Goals to Guide Rams Past Curry

CLEARWATER, FL | The FSC women's lacrosse team earned a 13-4 victory in the final game of their spring break trip to Clearwater, Florida on Thursday. Senior attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.) led Farmingdale State to the win with a season-high six goals.

The Rams (2-3) led 2-1 after the first quarter and scored five unanswered goals in the second to take a 7-1 advantage.

Junior attack Anna Hughes (Bethpage, N.Y.) netted a goal, from junior attack Nicole Pontecorvo (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), to go up by three, before Vogiatzis scored unassisted only 39 seconds later.

With 5:06 on the clock, senior midfielder Ashley Codispoti (Patchogue, N.Y.) set up Vogiatzis for her third goal of the game to give FSC a 5-1 lead.

After a Pontecorvo goal, Vogiatzis scored off the pass from junior midfielder Megan Diamond (Dix Hills, N.Y.) as Farmingdale State led by six at the halftime break.

Curry cut the deficit to five at 8-3 early in the third but the Rams registered three straight goals, including two by Vogiatzis, to close the quarter and go in front, 11-3.

Farmingdale State scored two goals in the fourth quarter as Hughes netted an unassisted goal before freshman attack Krystal Sulin (Nesconset, N.Y.) scored on a free-position shot to account for the 13-4 final.

Along with her six goals, Vogiatzis also added an assist and a ground ball. Hughes tallied a season-best six points on two goals and four assists, while Sulin had two goals.

Codispoti and Pontecorvo recorded a goal, one assist, three ground balls and three caused turnovers each in the win.

Senior goalie Ronnie Reilly (Oceanside, N.Y.) stopped 11-of-15 shots faced to pick up the victory in net.

The women's lacrosse team has returned home and will next host non-conference opponent Kean on Wednesday, March 22nd at 7:00 p.m.
