FSC Remains Undefeated With Home Win Over Maritime

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State women's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 on the season after tonight's 16-9 home conference victory over Maritime. The Rams currently sit atop the Skyline in first place, while the Privateers fell to 4-1 and are in second.

FSC jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after goals by sophomore attack Athena Vogiatzis (Holtsville, N.Y.), senior midfielder Sam Shelton (Holtsville, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Kristen Shine (Manorville, N.Y.).

After freshman attack Avery Jillson Neuwirth (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) got the Privateers on the board with a free-position goal, the Rams answered with scores from senior attack Courtney Gendels (Wantagh, N.Y.) and Vogiatzis to go out in front 5-1 with 20:40 on the clock.

Leading 7-4 with less than four minutes remaining in the first half, Farmingdale State junior midfielder Danielle Hall (Levittown, N.Y.) netted the Shine pass to increase the advantage to four. Vogiatzis followed with her fourth goal of the day to give the Rams a 9-4 lead at the break.

Early in the second half, Maritime cut the deficit to three but FSC responded with five straight goals, including two from both Vogiatzis and Gendels, to go out in front, 15-7. Over the final 5:55, MT outscored the Rams 2-1 as FSC notched the 16-9 victory.

Vogiatzis led all scorers with a career-high seven goals, while Gendels tallied seven points on four goals and three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Perrini (Holbrook, N.Y.) stopped 10 shots in the win

For Maritime, four different players scored two goals in the loss.

Farmingdale State next will travel to Manhattanville for a Skyline Conference game on Tuesday, April 20th at 3:00 p.m.
