Women's Lacrosse End of Season Report

The women’s lacrosse program finished their inaugural season on a high-note, defeating Briarcliffe College 14-11 in their final game. Junior Natalie Budinich (Commack, NY/Commack) and freshman Tina Tomasello (Melville, NY/Hills East) led the offense throughout the season. In seven games, Budinich scored 35 goals and Tomasello finished with 13. Freshmen Jenn Ryan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) and Patricia Smirniotis (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) held the defense together, leading the team in caused turnovers.

Freshman Andrea MacIntyre (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) had a great year in goal for coach Christie Ruppert. In her first year as a goalkeeper, Dre had an astounding 28 save effort against Harford Community College during the teams overnight trip to Maryland. She averaged 15.6 saves per game and received many post-game compliments from officials and opposing coaches.

Farmingdale competed as a club team this year and will compete as a Division III varsity program beginning next year. The future looks bright as the team will return 10 players along with a strong nucleus of freshman and transfers.

 

Budinich Scores 9 Goals in First Lacrosse Victory

Farmingdale State junior Natalie Budinich (Commack, NY/Commack) ended the season on a high note after scoring a season-high nine goals, three assists and a team-high 11 ground balls to lead the women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 win over Briarcliffe College on Wednesday afternoon. Budinich scored five goals in the first and assisted on a goal by freshman Melissa Rudy (Dix Hills, NY/Hills East). The Rams were down 7-6 at the half but forged ahead in the second after three goals by Tina Tomasello (Melville, NY/Hills East), a goal by Daniella Caroleo (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) and four more goals from Budinich.

Farmingdale’s defensive unit held Briarcliffe to only four goals in the second half. The freshman crew of Jenn Ryan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale), Amy Serr (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) and Patricia Smirniotis (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) will be back again next season, while seniors Dale Holzman (Northport, NY/Deer Park) and Kelly Ramirez (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) played in their final game for the Rams. Freshman goalkeeper Andrea MacIntyre (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) made 10 saves for the win.

This was Farmingdale’s first win in the history of the program. They will be moving up to a varsity program for the 2005-2006 season and playing a full Division III schedule.

Rams Fall to Mount Saint Vincent in Final Home Game

Farmingdale State (0-6) fell to Mount Saint Vincent (10-4) 20-4 in the final home game of the season for the women's lacrosse club team.

The Rams were down 15-1 at the half with the lone goal by Daniella Caroleo (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) on a stack play, off a nice feed from Natalie Budinich (Commack, NY/Commack). Budinich scored three goals of her own in the beginning of the second half to cut the deficit to 15-4. With two goals called back because of crease violations, the Rams would take the loss by a final score of 20-4. Freshman goalkeeper Andrea MacIntyre (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) finished the first half with 11 saves and added 10 more in the second.

The Rams will compete in their final game of the season on Wednesday, April 27th against Briarcliffe College at John Burns Park in Massapequa, NY at 3:30pm.

Women’s Lax Falls in First Maryland Game

Although finishing behind in a 14-8 game to Harford Community College in Bel Air, MD on Saturday afternoon, the Rams women’s lacrosse team worked together for their finest performance of the season. “They really worked well together this game, moving the ball up the field successfully and hustling to every ball. Although we didn’t come away with a win, I’m really proud of them. We have a lot of girls who have never played before this year, and they’ve come a long way. I’m looking forward to our next game” said head coach Christie Ruppert.

Freshman Andrea McIntyre (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) had an outstanding game in net with a total of 28 saves. Natalie Budinich (Commack, NY/Commack) led the attack with five goals, while the defense was led by Jenn Ryan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) and Patricia Smirniotis (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park). Daniella Caroleo (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) had one goal and one assist for the Rams.

Farmingdale is staying in Annapolis, MD tonight before tomorrows game against Anne Arundel Community College, who is ranked #2 in the nation for junior colleges.


Tomasello and Budinich Score Five in Defeat

Farmingdale State fell to 0-2 on the season after a 13-11 loss to visiting Briarcliffe College (1-0). Tina Tomasello (Melville, NY/HHH East) and Natalie Budinich (Commack, NY/Commack) both finished with 7 points (5 goals and 2 assists) to lead the Rams attack.

Daniella Caroleo (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) added a goal and two assists for Farmingdale State, while goalkeeper Andrea McIntyre (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) stopped 9 saves on the day. The defense was led by freshmen Patricia Smirniotis (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) and Jenn Ryan (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) who both led the team in caused turnovers.

The team is traveling for an overnight trip to Maryland this weekend for games against two top NJCAA (Junior College) teams. They will play Harford Community College on Saturday, April 9th at 3:00 pm and then play Anne Arundel Community College on Sunday, April 10th at 1:00 pm.

Christie Ruppert Named Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Farmingdale State

Mike Harrington, Director of Athletics at Farmingdale State, announces today that Christie Ruppert has been named Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Farmingdale State.

Christie will coach the inaugural season of the program at Farmingdale State. The team will compete as a Club team this season and become a Varsity program for the 2005-2006 academic year.

Christie was a member of the Women’s Lacrosse Team at Adelphi University for the past four years, where she was Captain of the Division II NCAA National Championship team in 2004 and the ECAC Championship team in 2003. Christie received a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design from Adelphi University in 2003 and is currently working towards a Master’s in Art Education at Adelphi.

She is a 1999 graduate of MacArthur High School, where she played three years Varsity Volleyball and Basketball and two years of Varsity Badminton. She currently resides in Levittown, NY.

Farmingdale State to Add Women's Lacrosse

Farmingdale State is pleased to announce that the College will be starting a Women's Lacrosse program beginning next academic year – 2004-2005. Next season the team will compete at club status and will be a full fledged NCAA Division III team beginning 2005-2006.

The College's goal is to build a Women's Lacrosse program that rivals the winning tradition our Men's program has established over the past 30 years. Farmingdale State will now offer 16 Intercollegiate Athletic teams with the addition of Women’s Lacrosse.

If you have any interested student-athletes, please contact Deana Ward at 631-420-2178. Deana currently serves as the Sports Information Director, Senior Women's Administrator and will be the Assistant Coach of our Women's Lacrosse program. Deana was an All-Conference player at Endicott College and was an Assistant Coach for two years at Elms College. A Head Coach will be named shortly.
